Wrapping can change the appearance of a suitable existing feature wall or TV console, but it does not create new structural panels, storage or fluted depth. Assess surface stability, joints, access and the finish direction before agreeing the design.

Choose whether you need a finish or new carpentry

Wrapping changes the surface appearance. It does not create new storage, a floating console or the depth of fluted panels. If you need a different structure, plan that work before selecting a decorative finish.

Assess the existing surface

Dampness, loose paint, textured surfaces and uneven joints need assessment. A large flat feature surface can make imperfections visible, so preparation is part of the design discussion.

Coordinate pattern and lighting

Compare wood grain, matte colour and stone effects with the room’s light and furniture. Discuss grain direction, repeat patterns and joints. One dominant texture often makes it easier to coordinate the whole room.

Plan around equipment

TV brackets, sockets, access panels, lighting and cable routes affect the work. State what will be removed and who is responsible for it. Keep access to anything that needs future maintenance.

Ask for the complete scope

Provide photos and approximate dimensions. Request an estimate that includes preparation, edges, access and the agreed finish. Use project photos as inspiration, then confirm the specification for your own space.

Plan the details people notice up close

A front-on photo is useful, but also photograph external corners, sockets, access panels and the underside of a console. Explain whether the television or shelving will remain in place. Confirm who is responsible for moving equipment and protecting cables; do not assume those tasks are included.

  • Pattern: decide which direction the grain or veining should run.
  • Joints: discuss their locations before material is cut.
  • Access: keep service panels and ventilation openings functional.
  • Condition: identify loose paint, damp areas or damaged panel edges before covering them.

Review the sample from the normal seating position and under the room’s evening lighting. A finish that appears subtle in a small sample may have more visual movement over a whole wall. Confirm the visible faces and returns included in the quote, then inspect them against that scope at handover.
